Ryan Williams, Ph.D
Ryan joins N12 Technologies with extensive experience in nanostructure deposition and characterization. He holds a Ph.D. from MIT and a B.S. from Penn State in materials science. He has worked in both technical and business roles at the Fraunhofer Center for Sustainable Energy, the Harvard University Office of Technology Development, and the US Naval Research Laboratory. In his free time, Ryan enjoys reading, ice hockey, and traveling to new places.
As Lead Engineer, David’s responsibilities include thermal, chemical and fluid modeling as well as the conception, design, manufacturing and management of N12’s scaled-up CNT production equipment. Prior to joining N12, David worked at Nanocomp Technologies as a manufacturing design engineer and project lead. In his free time, David also enjoys kiteboarding.
Lead Applications Engineer
Chris is responsible for helping customers get the most out of N12′s composite enhancement products. He holds two degrees from MIT and brings experience in aerospace product development for large OEMs and DoD, as well as composite fabrication and testing. Before joining N12, Chris was a Senior Project Engineer at MesoScribe Technologies in NY. He likes steak.
Paul Jarosz, Ph.D.
Paul holds a Ph.D. from the University of Rochester, where he became an expert in catalysis and chemical kinetics. He has previously been successful in developing and improving laboratory and industrial scale processes for CNT production and modification. He is also a recognized expert in the use of carbon nanotube materials in electrical applications. Paul is a consultant for a variety of projects and is an avid cyclist.
Steve is the CFO of N12 Technologies. He brings his unique combination of private equity, business development and entrepreneurial experience to plan and execute growth strategies. Before he joined N12, he was a private equity professional; he has invested hundreds of millions of equity into multiple successful global businesses. His private equity career started with The Carlyle Group, through which he actively invested in the U.S. and in Asia. From there, he joined a private equity firm called RedZone Capital, based in Washington DC, to invest in entertainment and consumer companies. Steve was also a key investment member of Sterling Partners, an operationally-focused growth equity fund. He graduated with Highest Honors from The University of Illinois.
Managing Director, Business Development
Ian joins N12 with 20 years of experience in the composites industry, in particular automotive, motorsport, marine and latterly defence. An internationally recognized offshore endurance powerboat racer, he holds 11 World Endurance Records and had success at British, European and World Championship levels in racing. He is the former CEO of XS Defence, a producer of high speed light craft for military special operations markets. Home for Ian is situated in one of the UK’s National Parks, The New Forest. Ian spends almost all of his leisure time running around after his teenage children, a daughter who rides horses in Eventing at International level for Norway and a son who races mountain bikes in the UK and USA. Life is, to quote Ian, “manic 24/7, just how we like it.”

Bob joins N12 with extensive experience in motorsports, automotive and sporting goods markets. He has raced internationally in the IMSA European and American LeMans Series with Porsche and BMW. Additionally, he has competed professionally in the World Challenge Touring Car Series with Acura – RTRL. He also holds a bachelor’s degree in business from the University of Tulsa.
Chemist & Process Engineer
Diana Deresh is a graduate of UMASS Dartmouth with a B.S. in chemistry. She serves N12 working on CNT characterization, chemistry development, engineering fabrication, and CNT production. During her spare time she likes to sail, kiteboard, and snowboard.
Heather works as an engineer for the composites team at N12 Technologies, where she specializes in experiment design, material testing, and sample analysis. She graduated from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute with a master’s degree in materials engineering, where she quantified mechanical properties of metals, polymers, and nano-composites. She also has experience consulting global material and chemical companies as they navigate new business opportunities involving material technologies. Outside the lab she explores various mediums of art, including stained glass, and works towards publishing a science fiction series.
Chris joins N12 Technologies as a Systems Engineer with a bachelor’s degree from The University of Massachusetts Amherst in mechanical engineering. In his main role as the production group’s primary engineer he focuses on process control, system dynamics, mechanical design, and fabrication. Outside of work he is a lifelong drummer, an avid snowboarder, and very enthusiastic about surfing, golf, and cars.
Dan is an Applications Engineer at N12 Technologies. Dan received his B.S.M.E. from the University of Rochester and his M.S. in the same field from UC Davis. A veteran of several startups, he brings a very diverse set of experiences ranging from aerospace composites fabrication to automated test system design. Outside of work, Dan is a competitive runner as well as an avid skier, surfer and outdoorsman. He loves assembling modular furniture and wishes there was a league to legitimize this activity as a sport.
As a Mechanical Engineer at N12, Chris is responsible for manufacturing equipment design and implementation and maintenance of the 3D CAD data management system. He holds a B.S. in mechanical engineering from Virginia Tech and an M.S. in mechanical engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Prior to joining N12, Chris was a process engineer for the US Bureau of Engraving and Printing, constructed and managed a nanoparticle research laboratory at the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology, and most recently, designed and fabricated food processing equipment for Reiser. He also has experience and a patent in silicon nanoparticle synthesis and characterization. He has traveled throughout the Middle East, as well as to Sri Lanka, Western Europe, and Turkey and prefers to spend his spare time outdoors hiking with his wife Stephanie and dog Reeses.
Hanna’s responsibilities as a Materials Scientist at N12 Technologies are CNT production, optimization and characterization. Her focus of understanding the growth kinetics of CNTs began as an undergraduate student researcher at MIT. She is also an avid competitive sailor and raced for the MIT women’s varsity sailing team.
Andy Liu joins N12 as an electrical systems and software systems engineer with a bachelor’s in electrical engineering from Harvard College. His main role is to devise and implement new control schemes for N12’s production process. In his free time, Andy enjoys designing analog circuits.
Yiying Zhang, Ph.D
Yiying joins N12 Technologies as a research scientist with specialties in processing and characterizing polymers and nano-materials for mechanical enhancement. She holds a Ph.D. from Northeastern University, where she developed expertise in high-performance nano-composites and interfacial engineering. She also has background in mechanical engineering and tribology from her M.S., B.S. and previous industrial work. Besides work, Yiying enjoys movies, snowboarding, and traveling to different places.
Sam joined N12 Technologies in July 2014 after obtaining a B.S. in mechanical engineering from Northeastern University. In addition to working as a mechanical engineer at N12, he is pursuing an M.S. in Mechanical Engineering, also from Northeastern. Sam works closely with the rest of the manufacturing and the production teams, upgrading and implementing each iteration of CNT production. Sam has a passion for New England sports and tends to step on people’s toes as a result. He also enjoys playing softball, and participates in various leagues throughout the year.
Ben brings a variety of skills and practical knowledge to the applications team at N12 Technologies. He has experience working with composites in both the startup world as well as established companies. When not in the office, Ben spends most of his time participating in sports such as surfing, rowing, hockey, soccer and tennis.
Mackenzie joins N12 Technologies as an applications engineer with a bachelor’s degree in materials science and engineering from MIT. Her main responsibilities are material testing and failure analysis. In her spare time, Mackenzie enjoys singing in any capacity, but especially in musical theatre.
Ben joins N12 with seven years experience in the nanotechnology sector and the high energy startup environment. After graduating from the University of New Hampshire in 2008 with a degree in chemical engineering, he transitioned his undergraduate research in materials and polymers into a position at Itaconix. He enjoys process development, unique and novel problem solving, and brings a creative and flexible mind to the mix at N12. His seemingly endless list of hobbies includes collecting antique and rare books, exploring, and amateur naturalism.
Will joins N12 Technologies with extensive experience in project management, mechanical design and engineering. He has worked for the last ten years in the design of industrial equipment for the food industry with Reiser in Canton, MA and Eastern Bakery Systems in York Haven, PA. He holds a B.S. from Penn State in mechanical engineering. In his free time, Will enjoys rock climbing, hiking, football and travel.
Melissa joins N12 Technologies as the business analyst. She recently graduated from Smith College with a bachelor’s degree in economics. In her free time, she enjoys listening to hip-hop and African music and watching her beloved Chelsea FC.
Lelaina joins N12 as the Office Manager. Her duties include accounts payable, purchasing, software compliance, and anything else she can dream up. She recently graduated from Harvard University with a bachelor’s degree in psychology and dramatic arts. She is obsessed with the intersection of creativity and organization. In her free time, she directs plays, listens to obscure music, and knits.
